Style & BeautyPost Category - Style & BeautyStyle & Beauty

It’s party time and it definitely smells like Christmas to me! I don’t know about you, but the Instant Goddess inbox has been flooded with enticing emails full of glam frocks and partywear.

So, here are the Instant Goddess online picks for this party season. And Instant Goddess is loving that a lot of the shops below are now offering an express shipping service where you can get your hands on your glad rags in 2-3 days (ideal for those fashion emergencies!).

ASOS CollageASOS Frock and Frill maxi dress in all over sequin, $2469.25

It’s time to do decadence à la The Roaring ‘20s… this ASOS stunner has Gatsby written all over it, and that’s no bad thing! Worldwide shipping is free and takes approximately 14 days to arrive, but you can upgrade to express shipping for $300.40 and it arrives in a super speedy 2 days!

ETSY CollageLaPupaHuman royal blue dress with gold beads & embroidery in modern baroque style, approx. $790, via ETSY.

Christmas certainly wouldn’t be Christmas this year without a spot of shoppa-shop on new internet darling ETSY, and Instant Goddess is LOVING LaPupaHuman based in Warsaw, Poland. Frocks are handmade, taking approximately 2-3 weeks to be made and 1-2 weeks to be delivered so get clicking, Goddesses!

River Island CollageRiver Island bronze sequin mesh tube dress, $750.

You can’t beat an all-over sequin for the party season but the pattern on this mesh tube dress from River Island makes it stand out from the other sparkly numbers that we see year in, year out. If you don’t like the bronze it also comes in elegant black. Shipping takes up to 10 days and costs £10 (approx. $120).

NewLookCollageNew Look Kelly Brook black embellished shoulder long sleeve midi dress, approx. $500

A little more low-key than some of its counterparts, but perfect for when full throttle party mode is not yet required. The Instant Goddess has always been a fan of New Look and was over the moon to find out only the other day that it ships to the ‘Kong. Delivery is free if you spend over £55 (approx. $685)… whoop, whoop!

Monsoon CollageMonsoon Josephine dress in gold, approx. $2480

Monsoon…yes! Yet another UK treasure that Instant Goddess has recently discovered delivers to Hong Kong. Delivery to the is free on orders over £75. Yes, ok, it might be The Great Gatsby again BUT amongst all the bodycon frocks that are rocking the shops at the moment isn’t it nice to dress in something that drapes elegantly rather than clings? (Of course then it doesn’t matter how many canapés you hoover up!).

NextCollageNext Ivory Jumpsuit, $679 via nextdirect.com

The Instant Goddess does love a jumpsuit, and it’s time to channel your inner Bee Gee in Next’s Saturday Night Fever-inspired look… in a good way of course! So why not go for a bit of winter white, stand out from the frocks and wear the trousers?

HoFCollageMidnight Embellished Cocoon Dress by Mint Velvet, approx. $1855 via House of Fraser

This Cocoon Dress from Mint Velvet at House of Fraser will hide anything that needs hiding… be it a few too many canapés, post natal wobble or even a little baby bump in the making, if it needs hiding of course! It’s in midnight blue, which is a flattering alternative to tried-and-tested black, and it’s embellished… and we know how much Instant Goddess loves to embellish! House of Fraser ship to Hong Kong for approx. $120 for delivery in 10 days and also offer an express service for approx. $240 for delivery in 3 days.

TopShop CollageTopshop Limited Edition Embellished Organza Shift Dress, approx. $1995.

More embellishment… I can’t help myself! Topshop’s shift dress in navy blue organza with its elegant front and revealing back is certainly worthy of closer inspection, especially the floral embellishment of course! Shipping to Hong Kong is free on orders of £100 and over (approx. $1200). Shipping on orders under this amount costs approx. $130 and takes up to 8 working days. They also offer an express service costing approx. $240 which takes up to 4 working days.

Atterley Road CollageDay Gentle Dress by Day Birger et Mikkelsen, approx. $2460 via Atterley Road.

A party dress edit wouldn’t be complete without at least one homage to luxe lace, this time from Scandinavian label Day Birger et Mikkelsen at Atterley Road, but what makes this dress so special is the back detailing… that exposed zip and ruffle… ooh la la! Atterley Road ship to Hong Kong and it’s FREE, FREE, FREE and arrives in a super speedy 3 working days… yippee!

VirgosLounge CollageSadie Maxi Dress approx. $2500.

There’s only one way to go out and that’s with a bang… so my last offering is from newly discovered Virgos Lounge and I think you’ll agree it’s a showstopper worthy of any Christmas or New Year’s ball.

So there you have it Goddesses, the only party frock edit you need for 2013!

Now where’s the champagne… ?

Hair

ChignonThis week Andrea Clark, Creative Director, at the Mandarin Oriental Salon turns plain Jane into the belle of the ball with a classy up-do.

With party season heating up but the weather cooling down, your hair has a better chance of looking sensational for that special event. Believe it or not, you can achieve a great look by yourself too, and the tips below can help.

What about a high bun, low chignon, a 40’s-inspired wave or fun braid?

Of course, there needs to be a bit of preparation. You will need bobby pins or curly grips, an elastic hairgrip, curling or styling irons and some hairspray to create texture.

First up, don’t wash your hair. It needs to be a little dirty but you can refresh your hair with dry shampoo such as Philip Kingsley’s One More Day Spray. Spray it at the root area to give volume and texture before starting any hair up-do.

Don’t be particular when grabbing sections of hair to curl; just create movement. Decide if you are going to grip your hair in a high or low ponytail. Scrunch the hair as though it was scrunching paper and arrange around the grip. Throw the pins anywhere and spray. You can also achieve a fun look with plaiting or braiding a ponytail, leaving it to hang or pinning it around the hairgrip. No need to worry if the plaiting isn’t neat. It will look funkier and become easier to pin.

If left frustrated because it isn’t quite working, let your hair down as by this stage it will have great volume and movement. Pin one side of your hair just behind the ear and secure with a fun accessory. Voila, an instant 40’s look!

Have fun, mamas!

Midweek Meal Inspiration

muffnuts 2“Muffnuts” lovingly baked by Gracie, aged 3.

You’d think with all these glam frocks Instant Goddess would be thinking about her waistline but in our household this week we discovered Jam Doughnut Muffins, AKA duffins… or Muffnuts as I like to call them! The recipe comes courtesy of the Domestic Goddess herself, Nigella Lawson and is so simple that you can get your kids to make them. (Proceed with caution though as once you try one of these you really will be on the slippery slope to elasticated waists).
