The holiday season is upon us. Are you feeling like everyone is jetting off, either to see family and friends or heading to warmer climes, and you’re still here… feeling a bit left out? Fancy a holiday treat without the costly airfare or travel chaos? How about a staycation?

The other week I found myself in Tseung Kwan O (that’s Kowloon East if you’re like me and don’t venture that often beyond Central… I know, I know, sad and bad!), heading for the newly opened Sense of Touch Spa at the modern-luxe Crowne Plaza.

As I stepped out of the MTR on a grey, miserable afternoon, little did I realise what a treat was in store for me.

Inspired by the pavilion spa villas that you often come across in Bali, Sense of Touch has recreated a little bit of that Pacific paradise here in Hong Kong. The treatment rooms are low rise pavilions – all lovely and brand spanking new, but most importantly, relaxing and tranquil with that tropical destination-spa feel to them.

There’s also a fabulous ‘sparty’ (that’s spa party to you and I!) space with a patio facing a pedicure lounge for those all-important sparty drinks. Fancy treating your other half to a holiday gift? There’s a couples’ treatment room available for a little ‘romance à deux,’as Sense of Touch describes it (and the rest I’ll leave to your imagination!)

Spa treatment rooms

Together with the British brand Elemis, Sense of Touch has tailor-made a range of treatments to suit all needs. Whether for a jet-lagged traveller, weary mama or grumpy hubby there’s something to relax even the most stressed person here.

I tried the Elemis Revitalizing Experience, two and half hours of blissful indulgence with not one, not two but three fabulous treatments rolled into one superb spa experience. My journey began with a with a dry body brush using the deliciously scented Lime and Ginger Salt Glow. This was followed by a steam shower to open the pores before a wonderfully relaxing hot stone back massage and culminating in an anti-ageing facial. After that little lot, as promised, I felt revitalized, glowing and thoroughly chilled out.

Sadly it was all too soon time to head back out into the grey HK air… ho-hum. But I’ll definitely be back soon!
