I’m going to go out on a limb and declare Tsim Sha Tsui not the most relaxing part of Hong Kong. It’s all parts of awesome if you like a crowd or a copy watch, but relaxation? Not so much. Unless you step into the sublime hotel The Mira on Nathan Road and whisk yourself down to MiraSpa – a must-try haven of indulgence in downtown TST.

Many questions baffle me, like why are yawns catching, and how on earth does MiraSpa find the perfect balance between relaxing and uplifting? I think it’s all about its minimalist décor, which bears no resemblance to traditional Asian spa furnishings. The look is clean and contemporary with a fresh and funky feel. When I arrived, I didn’t know whether I wanted to sink into a blissful treatment or order up a cocktail beside the infinity pool.

But, alas, tough choices must be made, and I pottered past the fitness centre, hair salon and nail lounge to the women’s Wet Zone – a pre- and post-treatment area that encompasses a hydro pool (that’s schmancy talk for a hot tub), sauna, steam room, experience showers and heated flotation waterbed lounges (you read that right – warm, floaty beds. These exist, people.)

To tell you the truth, half an hour in a hot tub is enough to send me home smiling, but oh gosh darn, I still had an Ultimate Power Facial to receive. Its impressive name promises a ‘complete complexion overhaul’ through advanced technology combined with luxurious natural ingredients. And that kind of treatment is totally at home at MiraSpa, which blends holistic nature with high tech therapies.

The 90-minute treatment kicked off with a cleanse and enzymatic peel to wake up my snoring circulation, during which my lovely therapist asked if I had a bruised eye. When she diagnosed it as just dark circles, I had to chuckle at Hong Kong’s incessant fatigue literally punching me in the face. After a bit of the old bright lights to remove chunks of gunk from my trouble spots (lovely dinner conversation we’re having here), it was lights off and into the most hardcore part of the treatment: the high-frequency micro-current technology to tone, lift, cleanse and heal. Feeling mostly like silver spheres being rubbed all over my face, it was comfortable enough for me to nod off during it, with only the tiniest sting in certain spots.

Afterwards, the therapist applied a divine Aromatherapy Associates nourishing face mask and massaged my sore neck and shoulders. When I realised it wouldn’t be prudent to literally beg her to keep massaging, she gently applied some moisturiser and eye cream to take me to the blissed-out finish line.

But perhaps the highlight of it all was when she guided me to a mirror to inspect the immediate effects: I truly looked five years younger, which lasted for days. Of course the whole world noticed, unless you are my husband. Score!

And you can bet where I took my smug five-years-younger face afterwards: back to those heated flotation waterbeds. In fact – who is that girl STILL lying on those beds?! Someone call security!

In addition to plenty of massage and facial options at MiraSpa, there are a number of signature rituals, great value packages and bespoke treatment options, or check out the Ultimate Power Facial details below!

The Ultimate Power Facial is $1,570 on weekdays and $1,600 on weekends for a 90-minute treatment.
