October has a lot of great options for parents when it comes to the theatre world, so much so that it was really hard to pick my top choices! Here’s just a small selection of the theatrical delights you can expect around town this month.

For toddlers

Bubble Magic- Pep Bous Wonderful World of Bubbles_Fishbowl bubbles

I wish I had half the enthusiasm for life that kids have for bubbles! Bubbles are awesome and Pep Bou’s Wonderful World of Bubbles is a whole show dedicated to the magic and science of bubbles! This is great show for little kids, and has various show times; including ones right after school and some nighttime performances.

For Barbie girls!

Yep, she’s pink, she’s glamorous and she’s live in Hong Kong! I had the pleasure of seeing this groups’ version of Sesame Street Live! a few months ago and now they’re back, this time with Barbie Live!

It’s a pretty basic kids tour show with their favourite characters come to life. But when you’re 5 years old and obsessed with Barbie and her dream house, what other show is there?! These types of shows are tailored for young audiences and their parents, so the acts are short in duration, the ushers are understanding of children’s needs (bathroom breaks included!) and the entertainers love to interact with their fans.

For kids who can’t get enough of Glee!

There are several musical theatre shows taking place in October, but I think the one that deserves a mention here is You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown by ACT. It’s being performed at the HK Repertory Black Box in Sheung Wan, and tickets are half the price of some of the other shows around the same time. Also, who doesn’t love the Peanuts gang? The music in this show is fabulous, and the production is perfectly family-friendly, meaning that parents and kids alike should have a great time.

For literary lovers

RSC-4

Is your kid bored to tears with their reading list already? Are you looking for a way to make learning fun? How about a play that packs all 37 of William Shakespeare’s plays into a 100-minute performance?! The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged is perfect for jaded teens, angsty college kids and parents who appreciate a dirty rhyming couplet! There’s typically a little blue humour in this show, but nothing you wouldn’t see on TV post-9pm.
