Sassy Mama’s Mini Guide to Holiday Camps and Workshops in Hong Kong

Does the idea of hearing ‘I’m boooreed’ all through the school break bring you out in a cold sweat? Us too! That’s why we’ve been swotting up on all the most fun and educational camps for Christmas 2012. They stay busy, Mama stays sane!

SPORT & ADVENTURE

Asia Pacific Soccer Schools – 27th & 28th December and December 31st, 2nd – 4th January
Sandy Bay and Kowloon Cricket Club.

If they’re passionate about the beautiful game, send them off to Asia Pacific Soccer School’s holiday programme. There’s camps in two locations for budding athletes from 5 to 13 years old and there’s also a separate Kinder Kicks holiday programme for the under 5’s.

ESF Sports Camps – 2nd – 5th January
Renaissance College and West Island School.

Providing age-appropriate sports camps for kids from age 3-10 years, the ESF make full use of their great facilities, offering soccer, trampolining, swimming and martial arts to name but a few of the activities available.

HKIS Christmas Training Camp – 27th – 29th December and 2nd – 5th January

A great chance for junior Beckhams to polish their soccer skills during Christmas break.

Outward Bound X’mas4Kids Camp – 26th – 30th December

For adventurous 8-10 year olds, Outward Bound is offering one week of serious camping and team building fun. This is a chance to experience being away from home with peers, in safe hands.

Tinytots – 17th – 21st December, 24th, 27th – 28th December and 2nd – 4th January

A soccer camp for wee ones from 18 months to 5 years old. Tinytots is the expert in providing a safe and fun environment for young footballers.

Tru-Flight Christmas Golf Camp – 18th – 20th December and 27th – 29th December 2012

The whole family can attend this residential camp at the famous Palm Island resort just across the border in Guangdong. Held over 3 days, this includes 9 holes with a PGA pro so you can be sure they’re really learning!

YMCA Christmas Sports Academy – 19th – 21st December and 27th – 28th December
Various locations.

If your child has energy to burn, check out this fab multi-activity camp by the YMCA. Just some of the activities on offer are gymnastics, Kung Fu, Taekwondo, rope skipping and Thai boxing. Suitable for 3-12 year olds.

ART & THEATRE

Colour My World – 27th & 28th December
Aberdeen Marina Tower.

Colour My World is once again offering a whole host of exciting creative workshops. There’s New Year calendar-making, angels for the tree and Mehndi illuminations, not to mention drama camp that explores the different ways in which people around the world celebrate the festivities. All you need to celebrate in creative style.

Complete Deelite – 12th, 13th and 15th December 
Central.

At Complete Deelite’s ‘We Luv Cupcakes’ workshop your child will spend a frosting-filled afternoon decorating their yummy yuletide munchies. Best bit? You get to sample their handiwork! More information can be found here.

Faust International’s Holiday Theatre & Creative Writing Workshops – 17th – 21st December and 2nd – 5th January
Sheung Wan.

Faust International will host two holiday workshops this year; Holiday Theatre and Creative Writing. Just so you’re kept in the loop, parents are given mid-week reports and invited to attend an open session on the final day of camp.

Kids’ Gallery Creative Arts

Kids’ Gallery is hosting a range of camps this holiday season for kids from 16 months – 6 years. Chocolate snowman-making, festive wreath-building and plenty of singing and dancing in Santa’s toy workshop will keep them busy. Click here for schedule and registration details.

Little Picasso Painting Studio – December 27th – 28th and January 2nd – 4th

There are 2 day ‘2 day ‘Winter Wonderland Animal Sculpture’ or 3 day ‘Treasure Box’ camps that will bring out their creativity using paper mâché, collage and paint. Protective art smocks are provided!

3 days of painting fun filled with Santa, reindeer, Christmas trees and of course, presents, means our walls stay handprint-free! Classes suitable from 5-11 years old.

RockABaby Winter Creative Camp, 24th December – 4th January. Sheung Wan
There’s a funky Christmas carol band, hip hop stylings and World Music on offer over at RockABaby’s holiday camp. Classes are suitable from 18 months up to 5 years old. Full details are here.

Winter Wonderland Workshop at Anastassia’s Art House – 27th December – 6th January
Anastassia’s Art House, Stanley, Happy Valley, Sai Kung and Repulse Bay.

There’s a host of Christmas-themed art activities at Anastassia’s four locations around town. With classes suitable for ages 3 and up and a family workshop option, the week-long camps will entertain and educate.

SCIENCE AND MATHS CAMPS

Children’s Technology Workshop iCamp – 24th – 29th December and 31st December – 4th January

Got a junior Spielberg at home itching to direct their own feature? Then iCamp may be the place for them. Using green screen technology, kids from 3 to 14 years can create their own Lego stage sets and older kids also get to have a go at editing using special effects.

Lego Education Christmas Day Camps – 18th – 20th December, 27th – 29th December and 2nd – 4th January
Central and Prince Edward.

With ‘Santa’s Secret Village’ and ‘To the North Pole’ themes, these festive camps use the Lego Education System to make learning super-fun.

Science Workshop Christmas Odyssey Workshops – 17th – 24th December and 27th – 28th December Various locations.

Offering maths, science and technology workshops for children of all ages, including a specially designed toddler’s camp, children will be developing their skills alongside others of similar age and expertise, whilst having great fun.

TLC Kids – 17th – 21st December, 24th, 27th and 28th December, 31st December and January 2nd – 4th

With camps located at The Beacon Hill School in Kowloon, Hon Lok Yuen International School in New Territories, Sha Tin Junior School, the Peak School and Discovery College in Discovery Bay, your child will be able to join other kids this Christmas at a venue close to home, no matter where you live. TLC Kids will be hosting a wide range of activities, from arts & crafts to maths and science – take your pick.

Elephant Community Press Workshops –

Whether it’s creating crooked Christmas carols, reindeer raps or celebrating the holidays with the Addams Family, Elephant Community Press have quirky, fun and inventive workshops for kids aged 4 – 14  years.

Mandarin for Munchkins Christmas & New Year Camp – 24th, 27th – 31st December and 2nd – 5th January Central, Sheung Wan and Discovery Bay.

There are fun Chinese workshops for Munchkins from 3.5 – 12 years on offer here. Activities are varied and include Mandarin karaoke, cookery, clay sculpting and calligraphy.
