Tiny Bites: Family friendly brunch at the Bostonian, Tsim Sha Tsui

Ok, Sassy Mamas – if you’ve run out of ideas for a family friendly Sunday brunch, I’ve stumbled across a cosy little spot tucked away in the elegant and oh-so-enchanting Langham Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui.

A well-established American restaurant, The Bostonian has a genteel setting, matched with ornate décor, making you feel like you’ve stepped into a little bubble of old fashioned charm. A jazz trio playing in the background adds to the vintage American flavour and voila, you’re on a brunch date with all the glamour and grace of a bygone era.

Round about now you might be thinking “glamour and grace – umm, not such a good match for my rough and tumble tribe of terrors”! But rest assured mamas, children are made most welcome by the friendly staff and will love the easy, relaxed atmosphere, not to mention the food, which is simply delicious.

Thumbs up:

The order of the day is a buffet style appetiser, a choice of six dishes for your main meal, dessert and either coffee or tea. And for parents keen to unwind, there’s a brunch package with free-flowing champagne too.

The buffet alone could easily satisfy any hungry heart with its superior seafood selection; including hot and cold lobster the signature Boston lobster is scrumptious, as are the char-grilled tiger prawns served with lobster butter – shucked oysters and smoked salmon along with an enticing spread of other delights like sushi, sashimi, a foie gras station and a small selection of breakfast foods, including mini scrambled eggs.

If you’re like me with eyes bigger than your belly, go easy here mamas, because there’s a lot to feast on, including the grand finale… a delectable dessert platter with miniature cakes, fruit and ice cream.

If your little ones aren’t up for the buffet, it’s no problem to ask for the hotel’s Alice in Wonderland themed ‘Through the Looking Glass’ menu, boasting all of your traditional tiny treats like nuggets and chips, pasta, spag bol and hamburgers. The chances are that they won’t want to miss out on the buffet dessert, which includes delights such as warm waffles and pancakes, sprinkles and chocolate sauce. You might struggle to tear your little ones away as they dabble excitedly with their creations…. but don’t worry, there’s always time for another glass of champers, right mama??

Thumbs down:

Note to those with bubs: there’s no change table in the restaurant bathrooms although you can head upstairs and use one inside the hotel.

There are several sets of stairs winding down to the Bostonian, so if you don’t want to break your back lugging it down, it’s probably a good idea to leave the stroller at home.

Booster type highchairs are available for toddlers only so this is definitely less suited to really wee ones.

Here’s the lowdown:

The Bostonian Brunch: HK$518 per person,
including unlimited pouring of non-alcoholic drinks.
The Bubbly Brunch: HK$698 per person, including unlimited pouring of house champagne.
The Children’s Brunch: HK$328 per person, including one glass of soft drink or orange juice.

Here’s to brunching in style, mama!
