Top 5 Outdoor Adventures in Hong Kong

Parties & PlayPost Category - Parties & PlayParties & Play

There’s still a whole lot of summer to go mamas, and thankfully we can see clearly now that the rain has gone and our days are filled with sunshine and blue skies again! It’s the perfect time to plan what to get up to this weekend with the kids… Here are our Top 5 Outdoor Adventures, all to be found in Hong Kong!

1. Camp out with Ooh La La at Pui O Beach
Beachside restaurant Ooh La La on Pui O Beach is a great easy way to camp out as a family – they have a private camp ground behind the restaurant complete with tents, showers and changing rooms. You don’t need to bring your own food and drink as the restaurant can provide everything, and they can also arrange bicycles or kayaks if you’re looking to work up a sweat! If you’re not quite up for a night under the stars, shoot them an email ([email protected]) and they can book you into the local YWCA or Silvermine Beach Hotel after dinner. Our fab idea? Pack off Daddy and the kids for a bonding trip together while Mama gets a night off! A tent for four people for one night is HK700 including bed rolls, cereal, fruit, water, a burner, utensils and charcoal so you can cook up a storm…

2. A Watersports Weekend at Palm Beach
With a huge selection of activities on offer, from Bodyboarding, Kayaksurfing, Windsurfing and Kiteboarding, you can either head out for a day on the water, or spend the night at Palm Beach’s amazing Tipi Village (the kids will LOVE it!). Overnight weekend rental rates for a 12 foot tipi which can sleep a family of four start from HK650 if you’re bringing your own gear, or HK750 if you need sleeping mats and bags (gives you a 20% discount off activities).

3. Pink Dolphin Spotting
If all this talk of camping out has you thinking wistfully of air con and your own comfy bed, never fear, we do have some gentler suggestions. One of our faves is to join the Hong Kong Dolphin Watch for one of their ecological boat tours every Wednesday, Friday or Sunday. Boats leave from Tung Chung New Development Pier on Lantau, and trips take about 4-4.5 hours (3 hours at sea). Kids under 12 are HK190 while tots under 3 go free! They even offer a shuttle bus service from Kowloon Hotel, TST. Trips have a 97% success rate at spotting the rare pink dolphins, so you’re almost certain to get a sighting!

4. Stand-Up Paddle Boarding
Also known as SUP, this was a huge fitness craze in the US last year (we hear the Hamptons were quite abuzz!) and is now in Hong Kong. Providing Mama will the ultimate core workout, the kids can also try it so everyone’s a winner! Blue Sky Sports Club in Sai Kung offer beginner private lessons for families with kids aged 7+ for HK680 for 3 2 hour sessions.

5. Relax on the Cleanest Beach in the SAR!
Got really teeny ones? Not in a hugely adventuresome mood? No problem – we’ve got you covered too… Take a very mini adventure to Trio Beach in Sai Kung. Less crowded than Tap Mun Bay, Trio is a chill little spot where NT families go to BBQ and swim. Bring your picnic basket mama! Take the MTR to Hang Hau, then the 101M Mini bus to Pak Sha Wan and then go by sampan to the beach.
