Wrap up warm for Sassy Mama’s December 2013 Theatre Roundup!

Parties & PlayPost Category - Parties & PlayParties & Play - Post Category - IndoorIndoor

Happy Holidays to all my Sassy Mama readers! Going to the theatre can be a great tradition to integrate into your family’s Christmas tradition. Lucky for you, there are several great options for you, regardless of preference!

For Mamas on a Budget

Freespace Fest

One of my favourite festivals is back! Freespace Fest is a free outdoor arts festival in Hong Kong. It’s on 14 and 15 December 2013 at the West Kowloon Arts District and will feature all sorts of arts performances. There’ll be spoken word for literary-loving mamas, circus acts from Australia, Parkour for little ones in your life who love leaping off furniture (umm… all of them?!), live bands and even breakdancing!

You need to register online and show your QR code at the gates.

Where: West Kowloon Arts District, Kowloon, Hong Kong (Austin MTR station)
When: 14-15 December 2013
How Much: FREE!

For Ballet Mamas

The Nutcracker is back! Personally, I don’t feel the holiday season is complete without falling into the magic snow-covered world with Clara. Hong Kong Ballet’s version was reimagined last year with new costumes, brand new sets and new choreography. The Rat King costume is off the chain! HKELD reviewed it last year, and you can see the verdict here.

For Cultural Mamas

Indian dance

For the Sassy Mama looking for a show to infuse a little culture into her kid’s life, I’m going to suggest Crossing Borders. It’s an Indian dance show that’s playing at the Fringe Club. The dancer, Oksana Banshikova is amazingly talented at what she does and Indian dance shows in Hong Kong are few and far between… so make sure you check this one out!

Where: Fringe Club, Central, Hong Kong
When: 6-7 December 2013; 7:30pm
How Much: $100 via HK Ticketing

For Literary Mamas

Fringe

Playreadings can be an interesting experience for kids to attend as they get to see a play workshopped before it goes to stage. During 10-14 December 2013 the Fringe Club is hosting a playreading festival, with daily readings at 6.15pm (and a later option at 9.45pm). The early start time will be perfect for exposing the kids to the arts while still getting them home in time for homework and bed! Find the full schedule of plays here.

ELDORADO(HK)!

Where: The Vault, Fringe Club, Central, Hong Kong
When: December 10th-14th, 6:15pm and 9:45pm

That’s it from me for the year, mamas! Happy holidays and see you again in 2014!
