Chinese New Year Race Day at Sha Tin

Looking for a prosperous start to the new year? Ring in the Year of the Rooster with friends and family at the races! With traditional lion dances, singing performances (and much more), this is a sure way to make the most of the annual festivities….

Stamford American School and Mini Mandarins’ Gruffalo Playgroup

Bring the kiddos along for a morning packed full with musical time, hands-on arts and crafts activities, and bilingual fun. The interactive storytelling of The Gruffalo (the bestselling children’s book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler) will be read in MANDARIN!

Oh, and since the event is exclusively for Sassy Mama readers, there’ll be plenty of time for you to sit back and unwind with like-minded parents as your tinies get a chance to meet The Gruffalo himself!

When: Friday, 3 February, from 9:30am to 11am

Cathay Pacific Chinese New Year Parade

The Cathay Pacific International Chinese New Year Parade is an extravaganza of music and colours! The best vantage points to capture the festivities are along Canton Road outside Harbour City, Haiphong Road or the junction of Nathan and Peking Roads outside Chungking Mansions. Or you can opt to watch snuggled on your very own sofa (the entire event is broadcast on TVB Jade).

When: Saturday, 28 January, 8pm to 9:45pm
Where: Starts at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza in Tsim Sha Tsui (for ticket holders only). Free viewing is allowed as the parade proceeds along Canton, Haiphong and Nathan Roads, ending at Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel and Towers.
How much: Free viewing along the parade route. Tickets for the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza are sold out.

FRITES: Piñata parties and Winter Wonderland Crafts for Kids

Head over to FRITES this weekend for a meal that keeps every member of the family happy. Simply make a booking for lunch, and let the littles run wild at the kids area. This January, they’ve set the area up with Piñata parties and New Wintery festive crafts, so you can enjoy some down time, knowing that your minis are in good hands.

When: Till the last weekend of February
Where: Throughout FRITES locations (Central, Wan Chai, Causeway Bay, Quarry Bay)
How much: Make a lunch booking – kids entertainment is free from 2 to 3pm!
