The Harbour School has made quite a name for itself as a successful international school in Hong Kong. Rightfully so. It has three campuses across Hong Kong, serves students from Pre-K to Grade 12, and even has its own 50 ft sailboat (yes, you read that correctly) but one thing that it doesn’t do big? Class sizes. Ask any parent what their major concern is when choosing a school and we bet you anything, that the answer is class sizes. The school prides itself on guiding students to success at their own level, both academically and socially, with core subjects taught in small groups with a high teacher: student ratio. Sure, there are plenty of impressive facilities and programmes on offer at The Harbour School, but the most important things the school can offer – any school – is personalised student-centred learning. And that it certainly does.
The school’s progressive curriculum means that students have plenty of opportunities to explore their own areas of interests outside of traditional academics. Which will still, in effect, contribute greatly to their academic and personal growth. If you, like us, believe that learning goes beyond textbooks and practice tests, then we guarantee you’ll be impressed with the school’s dedication to holistic, hands-on learning.
The school has clearly put its money where its mouth is when it says it offers a dynamic learning environment. The school has three Centers of Excellence to its name, all run by specialist teachers who are professionals in their field. Each has been expertly designed to give students one-of-a-kind project-based curricular experiences which integrate learning through content. So on one day, students can make the most of the Foundry where they showcase their artistic ingenuity in this unique maker space. The next, they’ll be brushing up on their biology in the school’s Marine Science Center and to top off the week, they’ll head to the high seas, sailing on the Black Dolphin, the school’s 50 ft sailboat. Now, that is taking experiential learning to a whole new level. If we had these facilities offered to us when we were at school, there’s no way we’d ever experience the Sunday night fear.
