So, the weekend rolls around and you decide a tasty lunch somewhere casual, easy and fun is the order of the day! Perhaps somewhere that you can park for free if you’re driving, or alternatively a place that has easy access to the MTR… Sounds like you need Frites Belgian Beer House in Quarry Bay!
With its bistro style and rustic, relaxed feel, the warm and welcoming atmosphere is great for the whole family. You’ll be made to feel right at home with super-friendly and attentive staff, not to mention an impressive menu selection to tantalise the hungriest of taste buds.
Thumbs up
Big buckets of mouthwatering mussels with a side dish of scrummy chips and mayonnaise make up Frites signature dish. These mussel pots come in half kilo or kilo-sized portions, with six delicious sauces to choose from, including the house special which boasts diced tomato, garlic, onion, light cream and fresh chives… utterly divine!
Fancy a beer to wash it down? There are over 100 to choose from! Yep, it’s a beer-lover’s heaven, but if you’re not that fond of hops then never fear, as there are plenty of delicious cocktails and mocktails to choose from. I can personally vouch for the super-zesty ‘Friars Sweetheart!’
Main meals are quite substantial so as much as you might be tempted, I suggest you don’t overdo it on the mussel extravaganza! After a pot split between the two of us, I splurged on the steak and frites, and my husband ordered the ‘Twosome Lamb Shoulder’ – suffice to say he had it to himself, and as succulent as it was, struggled to finish it! (No dinner for us that night!)
The kid’s menu is full of tasty classics like Spag Bol, Bangers and Mash, Schnitzel Strips, Kid-Sized Burgers and Fish and Chips.
Most importantly of all for mums and dads looking for a quiet meal, there’s a decent-sized and conveniently located play area for your tiny tots that will keep them occupied, while you keep one eye on them and enjoy what’s on your plate! There’s also lots of open space within the restaurant, so kids won’t get in anyone’s way if they need to burn off some energy. And what’s always a lifesaver in case of pre-meal meltdowns, mama? Colouring pencils and paper of course!
If you’re looking for a place to hold junior’s next birthday party, this could be the one… Ava took it upon herself to head undercover into a party crowd, and managed to score herself a nice orange balloon!
Thumbs down?
Ava thoroughly enjoyed her pasta, but be warned that the portions are pretty sizeable, so go easy on any mid-morning snacks before your visit.
High Chairs?
Yep, both high chairs and booster seats are available.
Stroller access?
Yes.
How much?
Starters $80-$185; Mussels $210 per half kilo, $365 per kilo; Mains $165-$385.
