Time to leave the kids at home for this one and spend a hot night out with the hubby! We’ve rounded up our personal date night favourites for wining and dining with that special someone. From more casual, laid back hangouts where you can enjoy good food and have a laugh, to intimate, unique experiences that are sure to spark a conversation, there’s something for everyone to enjoy!
Being from the Great White North, the hubs and I always have a hankering for a good solid lobster dinner. We’re spoiled with great lobsters from the East coast in Canada and have been waiting to find a restaurant in HK that does it just right. A friend recommended Bisque in LKF for us to check out and we were definitely not disappointed! An intimate and cosy setting (as in three booths and minimal seating around the open kitchen/bar), we were welcomed to a chic, sexy and sophisticated dining room. The booth tables make it especially romantic while dining in candle light.
Besides the ambience being perfect for a date night, the food was equally superb. We started off with the Lobster Bisque in a bowl which was made for sharing. The creaminess and rich flavours of the lobster, not to mention generous portions of lobster pieces and a lobster claw inside the soup, made for a delicious and decadent start. The Canadian Mussels with a creamy, garlicy white wine sauce were finger lickin’ good. If it wasn’t for the niceties of eating in public, I would’ve drunk the entire broth! The piece de resistance had to be the boiled lobster with seasonal vegetables and of course melted butter to dunk the juicy pieces of meat in. This meal took us back home and after finishing a bottle of prosecco, we walked out promising ourselves that we’d be back for another date night soon.

If you’re looking for an exciting and unusual date night experience, Alchemy is worth checking out! The quirky, charismatic lounge space is ideal for a pre-dinner drink, and the pitch-black downstairs restaurant is where all the crazy happens. From the human-train leading you to your table, to feeling your way to the bread basket, dining in the dark stimulates all your senses.
Part of the fun is guessing what you’re eating so I won’t offer spoilers. The whole evening was made complete by our waiter, Michael, who truly was the best guide we could have asked for! His visual impairment allows him to navigate the room with such confidence and ease, whilst I struggled to find my cutlery (and crockery…). The experience made me reflect on the obstacles that people with different abilities overcome (with such strength and commitment) every day, and consider all that I take for granted.
As a date spot, dining in the dark guarantees interesting conversations, and lets you learn a bit more about how you both respond in situations outside your comfort zone. Top quality service, great food, and hilariously open conversations? Check!

Located in the heart of Central, the home of live entertainment, Grappa’s Cellar is a place to spend a relaxed romantic Friday evening. I’d save my appetite for this one because the Italian’s are all about their carbs!
Start off with their Bruschetta: toasted Ciabatta with red vine tomatoes, garlic, basil, extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette. Then for your main course, try out their penne with fresh lobster, tomatoes, grappa and cream cheese (are you hungry yet?). To save the best for last, go for the classic Tiramisu. Indulge every bite and then dance the night away with the live music. Super fancy, quiet dining can be overrated – it’s all about that energy and amazing food!

My go-to date night destination is Le Bistro Winebeast in Wan Chai. This cosy spot is un-pretentious and serves delicious, beautifully prepared French food that hits the spot. The steak tartare is arguably the best in Hong Kong and each dish is packed with exquisite ingredients and flavours… the set dinner menu is also great value at only around $458 per head for 4 courses, and only $558 with wine pairing (and the wine is outstanding!). Le Bistro Winebeast is the perfect date night treat in a relaxed, intimate environment with stellar service. A must-visit if you’re looking to impress!

The Chop House in Causeway Bay is my ideal date night spot. The large 3/F terrace is just high enough to get away from the noisy streets, but low enough to be amidst by the twinkling lights of the surrounding buildings. A glass of wine and selection of steak, seafood and sides finishes the perfect atmosphere, and the tables are spread out just right so you don’t have to worry about any eaves-droppers nearby! Plus, being in the heart of town means the night doesn’t have to end there!

Despite being nothing novel, my fav place for an affordable (but consistently good) date night would have to Figos Seaside Café in Discovery Bay. To keep it wallet friendly, I head down on a Monday night to catch their 2-4-1 thin n’ crispy pizza deal. I suggest grabbing your S.O, a good bottle of red, and planting it on the beach to bask in the sunset. AND if you stick around long enough, you will be treated to some free entertainment in the form Disneyland fireworks! But for those of you who don’t want to venture all the way to Lantau, have no fear! Castelo Concept’s sister restaurant, Jaspas, offers similar deals at their Kennedy Town and Sai Yin Pun locations.

My choice for a fun, tequila-filled date night would have to be Brickhouse in Lan Kwai Fong. It’s crowded, it’s noisy, they make a mean margarita… AND they have chips and guac’. This definitely ain’t one of your stuffy/romantic nights out, this is for a fun date night with lots of giggles, pumpin’ music and delish nomz. Yep, nomz with a Z.
