








Team work makes the dream work
We can’t think of a better way for our children to learn cooperation and team work than having them participate in sports with their peers! Team sports are a great way to get children and young people active whilst also widening their social circle. Whatever they are into there are plenty of sports opportunities throughout Hong Kong. Check out some of our favourites from football, to rugby to ultimate frisbee to ice hockey and more… there’s something for every kiddo to enjoy!
With five divisions and four age categories from Under 12s all the way to Under 19s, netball’s popularity is increasing dramatically – and for good reason! There is so much variety in skill levels; newbies are welcomed with open arms and skilled players compete in the highest division.
Hong Kong Cricket Club field teams in all four age ranges, in addition they runs a Nettas programme for players aged 7-9 years. HKCC has 3 teams who play in the Nettas League 3 times per season. Nettas is designed to develop basic netball skills in young players and instil a love and passion for netball.
Valley RFC run action packed coaching clinics throughout the season for young, aspiring netball players focused on becoming the best player you can be. Covering all things netball including skills, good movement patterns, fitness, nutrition and most importantly FUN!

Average membership fees: Between $2000-$3000 including weekly training and uniforms
Junior rugby is a vibrant and expanding sector of Hong Kong rugby and ranges from minis (U7s to U12s) to colts (U14s to U19s). There are currently more than 4,200 children registered to play rugby in one of the 18 official clubs that participate in the game. There are teams for both girls and boys and its becoming increasingly popular for both genders. Junior rugby is structured and competitive and promotes a wide range of skills for youngsters. Valley, Hong Kong Football Club and Discovery Bay Pirates are all great clubs to get involved with.

Children from 4 to 16 years can get involved in Mini Hockey and Youth Hockey programs. Valley Hockey Academy has just brought current South African National Coach Fabian Gregory on board in order to invigorate the academy program and ensure those involved are having fun and developing both their sporting ability and their long-term love for the game.

More and more kids are getting into football with thousands of children already involved in the Junior Leagues throughout Hong Kong. There are some great teams with fantastic coaches and facilities to support their dreams and develop their skills with teams ranging from toddlers to teens. Check out Hong Kong Kong Football Club or Kowloon Cricket Club.

Ice Hockey is a fast paced and highly energetic game and a great way for both boys and girls to develop hand-eye coordination and balance. It’s not easy to skate and play hockey, so some initial skills are necessary. Contact Hong Kong Typhoons or Hong Kong Tigers for more information. Teams play in various age categories from Under 10s to Under 14s and there are International as well as Regional Tournaments making it extra exciting.

This is great activity for older kids with options for children aged 15-18. Ultimate frisbee has the utmost in fun factor and is a great way to get outdoors and get competitive. The sport is action packed and so fast. In recent years, the student ultimate scene in Hong Kong has really picked up and increased in participation rates and skill level.

Memberships Fees: Approx $250
Basketball is another sport suitable for boys and girls with mixed teams for Under 10s and then girls and boys for Under 12s and Under 14s. Hong Kong Basketball Academy offer trial classes if you want to check out this action packed sport.

When to Sign up: Many schools such as ESF offer summer camps which are a great way to get involved.

Take me out to the ball game, take me out with the crowd… Did you know Hong Kong has a thriving baseball association? Sign your little batter up for a swinging good time. Kids aged 5 years old and up can sign up to be part of the training camp to learn all the fun basics of this sport. As they grow in interest and skill, they will be able to join various leagues around town. The league itself is typically run in Cantonese, but English speaking coaches are available.
