Tiny Bites: Hand-crafted burritos at Cali-Mex!

There’s a convenient food that many Americans, especially those beckoning from California, absolutely crave: the crafted burrito. Now in Hong Kong, we can fulfill that craving at Cali-Mex. With seven locations scattered around Hong Kong, you can get your quick fix anytime, anywhere, and believe me – the food does not disappoint!

What makes the food at Cali-Mex sensational is the freshness of ingredients, most of which are imported: the avocados, beef and chicken are from Australia, seafood from New Zealand, and pork from the US. They have a variety of salsas that are spot-on too. The heat of the food can be adjusted as well – just let them know how many chili peppers you’d like and be pleasantly thrilled by some spice!

The menu at Cali-Mex is easy: choose between a burrito or a bowl, and load it up. Or, choose from a variety of different tacos or salads. Once you’ve decided how you’ll take your Mexican fare, you start building up your tasty feast. First, choose the base from a variety of beef, chicken, pulled pork, seafood and veggie options. Next, choose pinto or refried beans, the sauces, and any additional toppings. The pulled pork is so smokey and delish, and the fish is light and savoury. You really can’t go wrong!

For the kiddos there’s a fantastic kids’ menu, where they can choose from kid-sized quesadillas or more simple burritos and tacos. My mouth was watering from the entire meal, and my daughter really did exclaim, “Everything is so fresh!” Wash all this down with nifty Jarrito sodas imported from Mexico in really cool flavors like mango, guava, pineapple and mandarin or opt for imported Mexican beers.

For dessert, finish off with a sweet bite from Cali-Mex’s delicious churros complete with chocolate dipping sauce. In all honesty, everything we had at Cali-Mex would have us coming back for more, and with seven locations, that is totally possible!

Cali-Mex gets a definite thumbs up from my family! The food was very fresh and the flavours of all the ingredients were distinguishable. The options were plenty for each member in the family, and the spiciness was exactly how each individual wanted it. The service was fast, yet care was taken with the presentation of the food. Finally the atmosphere of the joint was just right with it’s bright aesthetic to match the colorful food.

Stroller Access
The best location for stroller access is the branch in Sheung Wan.

Highchairs
There are no highchairs, but the Sheung Wan branch and the Staunton Street branch have booths.

Kid’s Menu
Each branch has a kid’s menu. The kid’s meal includes a choice of quesadilla or burrito with a choice of coconut water in banana, chocolate, grape, or coconut.

Price Range
The price range is very reasonable. A child will eat for under $70 and an adult’s meal ranges from $70-$100. The servings are large and could easily be shared or taken home for the next day’s lunch.
