The New Year is here and good intentions are flying high… but we have no sports gear to support the cause! Our threadbare leggings and grey tank tops just won’t cut it anymore and we haven’t seen our trainers since before never… so what’s a mama to do? Well we’ve hunted all over Hong Kong to make sure our workout wardrobe is new and bang on trend too!

This city has a vast array of sports stores and streets but we’ve sussed out the ten hottest spots that our fitness fanatic Managing Editor swears by. From high to low, specialty to extreme, you’ll find everything you need and more in the list of shops below!

EVERYTHING YOU NEED AND MORE

Sogo Causeway Bay
Hectic and busy Sogo might not be the most glamorous place to shop but it is home to some of the best sportswear in Hong Kong. This multilevel Japanese-style department store in the heart of Causeway Bay has everything you need to deck out your sports wardrobe from head to toe. All of the large name brands are represented (except for Asics) and it’s really great to have such super stock all in one place, (they even stock Stella McCartney’s designs for Adidas!). Nike, Puma, Reebok, Columbia, The North Face and many more vetted labels have all set up shop here on the fourth floor. It’s impossible to leave empty-handed… trust us we’ve tried!

GigaSports
GigaSports has it all when it comes to competitive sports apparel. It is a sports superstore with premium brands and a complete selection of sports footwear and apparel. They also stock equipment and accessories from basketball and tennis, to soccer and outdoor sports. Customer satisfaction is key here and you will find teams of sports specialists in store just in case you need a helping hand and some expert advice. They have a multitude of colours and styles in brands such as Puma, Nike, Adidas and 2XU just to name a few.

Escapade Sports
Talk about functionality! This little mecca in the heart of central services the die-hard triathletes, runners and fitness freaks on the island. From Garmin watches to Vibram Five Fingers this is the pinnacle place for supreme sports equipment. With Asics, Orca, 2XU, CompresSport and our beloved  Shock Absorber sports bras, this shop might be small but boy is it mighty! They are serious about their sportswear but there’s room for fun here too and on our last visit we spotted some rainbow runners.

THE SPECIALIST

Nike id
For the fashion forward fitness bunny this small store is the place to go. With exclusive limited edition Nike id products and a computer where you can design your own shoes, this specialist store is a gem amidst the buzz of Causeway Bay. The selection is highly edited and some of the most unique Nike products in Hong Kong can be found here; including tanks, shorts, shoes and everything in between. If you’re looking for the latest trends and think that spotting a training twin is a total ‘mare than this hot spot is for you!

Lululemon
Ah luxurious Lululemon… super soft and so stylish you’ll never want to take it off. Lets be honest, keeping active requires a lot of motivation and having trendy gear can really help get you up and on the treadmill at the crack of dawn! The original yoga turned multisport label offers exceptional support and stocks by far the most flattering sports gear on the market. Tops taper to conceal tummies while pants and shorts are cut to ensure lumps and bumps are kept to a minimum, perfect for post-baby mamas! This yoga inspired lifestyle brand all the way from the West-Coast of Canada carries tops, tees, tanks, pants, accessories and everything else you need to get to your mat in style. Any expecting mamas can be sure that yoga-wear will usually be made from material that guarantees a good stretch in it, ideal for any growing baby bumps. Prices are reasonable, shorts and bras are around $300 and the sheer variety of styles, cuts and colours on offer make us want to practice our backward bends every day of the week!

Our fail safe one stop shop for basics on a budget truly can’t be beaten. The $100 crop tops are wallet friendly and stylish to boot – perfect for that spin class after work with the hot instructor! Their Body range offers fresh and fun slogan tanks, sports bras, shorts, pants, socks and accessories ranging from XS-L in most styles. If you buy one thing from here pick up the attack tank – it is versatile, supportive and oh so comfy! This is our secret spot to stock up on sports socks too.

H&M
On a bit of a budget but want to look like a million bucks?! Well H&M is the place for you. They don’t have largest sports section but everything is good quality, washes well and offers great value for money. Their sports bras are particularly well designed and offer different support levels. If you find something that suits you it would be wise to bulk buy as things sell out fast here!

Gap
We’re quick to associate well-known high street brand Gap with white t-shirts and conservative denim jeans… but their basics don’t end there. Their super soft GapBody cotton tanks and sports shorts make for cool cosy workout gear that is a nice relaxed alternative to scary spandex. Lots of black and white options are a great way to start out your new wardrobe and offer a foundation to build on. Prices are reasonable and sales staff will go out of their way to help you find what you’re looking for.

Mayarya

One of our favourite maternity stores, Mayarya, comes out on top for maternity sportswear. Stocking an edited collection of activewear that includes Noppies Amsterdam Capri Legging, this is the perfect place to come if you’re determined to keep up your fitness as an expecting mum. The basic styles available are exactly what you need if you’re looking to keep it simple, practical and comfortable. They also have the ideal sports bra for nursing mamas, that not only offers support for working out, but also has a drop cup for feeding the baby… talk about multi-tasking!
